12 Hair Hacks For Longer, Stronger Hair
12 Hair Hacks For Longer, Stronger Hair

Often people want to know how to grow hair faster – but the trick is to have healthier hair!

The world’s longest hair in the world was recorded by The Guinness World Records in 2004 as 5.627 meters (that’s over 18 feet!) and belongs to Zie Qiuping who resides in China. You may not want hair as long as this (frankly, that sounds like a lot of hard work and admin) but you absolutely want to obtain and maintain a healthy and long mane in time for that summer sun!

These 12 hair hacks will have you well on your way to longer, stronger, healthier tresses in no time!

12 Hair Hacks to Follow:

Aloe Vera

Did you know that if you let aloe vera oil seep into your locks for a few minutes before washing, it can help advance hair growth? It has an alkalising property that can support in improving the hair’s PH levels which can, in turn, contribute to growth!

Up Your Biotin

Biotin is touted as the hair, skin, and nails saviour in the supplement world! It helps promote strength and facilitates growth. If you want to find it in food, you need to stock up on almonds, legumes, whole grains, lean protein, milk, and eggs.

Trim It

When was the last time you got your hair cut? It sounds counter-intuitive but in order to ensure the healthiness of your hair, it needs to be trimmed regularly. We recommend every 6 weeks for maximum growth advantages! If you don’t get it cut regularly, the damaged ends will break off and make your hair shorter.

During self-isolation, we recommend against trimming your hair, unless you or another in your household are trained! You don't want to damage your tresses by doing it wrong.

Crank Up The Calcium

Alongside Biotin, Calcium is its hair-boosting twin! Calcium can absolutely boost the quality of your locks. If you can’t consume dairy, which is renowned for its high calcium content, try goat’s milk which is also high in this essential mineral.

Another good tip: if you’re tossing out the yellow yolk in eggs, stop now! That’s where the nutrients and healthy fats are in the egg, including the calcium which essential for hair health.

Cool Down Your Water

We all love a super hot shower, but it’s a nightmare for your hair. High-temperature water will weaken your hair, and cause it to become dry and brittle. You know that math: dry + brittle = breakage resulting in limited growth! Turn down the heat when it comes to your wash and save the health of your hair.

Pat Dry

Try to avoid wrapping your hair up in a towel after washing, and absolutely steer clear of rubbing the hair with the towel too. This will make your locks more fragile and prone to breaking. Simply blot the hair with the towel instead and patiently remove the moisture. This will help protect the hair’s health.

Scalp Cleanse And Massage

Dead skin cells, dirt, and oil are easily collected on your scalp which clogs the pores and makes it even harder for new hair to come through. When you shampoo, take a couple of minutes to really massage your cleanser into the scalp to ensure all the muck comes away with the rinse. In addition, a good massage with the fingers increases blood flow to the scalp, which can encourage your hair follicles to reactivate.

Seek Out The Silk

Cotton pillowcases can draw moisture out of the hair, which isn’t good. Try a silk pillowcase instead. Silk will reduce the friction between your hair and the pillow and less friction = less breakage which is a win for your hair’s health and growing abilities.

The same goes for your scrunchies! Did you know that regular elastic hair ties can lead to hair breakage, especially for hair that’s fine, dry and/or already damaged? Try a silk scrunchy, which can combat excess friction for optimum breakage prevention, and smoother hair.

Ham Up The Hydration

Drinking more water helps nearly every bodily function, and your hair is no different. How strong your hair is and how fast it grows can be linked to how efficiently your body eliminates toxins. Drinking water literally flushes your system so support your body and aim to drink at least 2 litres of water a day - this is about 8 to 10 glasses - and you'll reap further benefits like more energy and brighter looking eyes too. Try to avoid too much caffeine and drink alcohol in moderation as both dry out the hair and skin.

Avoid Tight Hairstyles

Love that high ponytail look? Unfortunately, it’s not doing anything for the health of your hair. When you tighten the hair high like that, the consistent pulling on the hair will make it fall out and put the roots at risk of permanent damage (so it won’t even grow back!). Loosen your tight hairstyles, or wear your pony lower. It’s important to give the strands, scalp, and hair a rest from all that stress to protect its quality!

Coconut Oil

When your hair starts to look a little frizzy on the ends, soak your hair in coconut oil overnight as this not only helps soften the hair but helps strengthen it! When your tresses are moist and soft, it reduces the chance of brittleness and breakage, so hair will keep growing and stay healthy! Read up on the many uses of coconut oil here.
