If you’re anything like the team here at Cel, you probably have hundreds of lotions and potions lining your shelves and bathroom cabinets.
You may have noticed as you pick up interesting and promising bottles of skin-saving creams around the store, that many products are labeled “non-comedogenic” now… Um, huh?
Usually listed alongside other positive words and phrases like “hypoallergenic” or “paraben-free”, or “sulphate-free”, or sometimes even referred to as “acneogenic”, all of these words can mean nothing what so ever to the average beauty product user!
But, what is non-comedogenic skin and hair care? What does it promise to do and is it right for you? Is it something to actively look out for on future products? Let’s take a look…
Non-comedogenic essentially means that the product has been formulated specifically to avoid clogging your pores. A usual rule of thumb then, is that these products are mostly oil-free.
Due to them being optimised to not clog your pores, this usually makes them popular with people who are prone to developing acne or suffering frequent blemishes or breakouts. When conditions like acne are caused by a blockage of the pores from excess sebum production induced hormonally, you can see why!
If you have acne-prone skin, then non-comedogenic skincare may be an avenue you should explore! Using non-comedogenic formulas means that you’ll be stopping unwanted oil sitting on top of your skin and ultimately blocking your pores and reducing your risk of blemishes.
That’s not to say oil is bad for your skin. Drier skin types need extra hydration, and the product that works for them may come in the form of pure oil in their beauty cupboard.
But, if you already suffer from excess oily skin or hair, non-comedogenic products are probably worth investigating.
Clogged up pores on your head can cause spots on your hairline, scalp or temple, aggravate issues like folliculitis, and also cause or exacerbate symptoms of things like dandruff and leave you with an irritable, dry scalp!
Sound like you? Non-comedogenic hair products and washes are probably what you should be looking at investing in.
Try Cel’s entire Microstem haircare range, and in particular, the Cel Microstem Shampoo & Conditioner. Hypoallergenic, paraben-free, sulphate-free, and non-comedogenic, both the Microstem Shampoo & Conditioner are perfect to ensure you’re giving your scalp and hair the quality it deserves to shine and remain pore blockage free.
The formula contains Active Panax Ginseng which works to exfoliate the follicles and dislodge dead skin cells caused by product build-up and dandruff. Thus, it encourages healthy hair growth too! It’s safe for all hair types, even colour-treated hair, so you can wash in confidence and keep your scalp clear and clean of dandruff and clogged pores!
If you have acne-prone skin, scalp folliculitis, or are generally concerned about having too much oil sitting on your face/head then don’t shy away from non-comedogenic products or brands.
Remember though, we’re all different so every bit of skincare is going to be a matter of trial and error before you find the products that work for you… The ones labeled non-comedogenic though, are probably a good start for oilier skin types in particular!
